Utah State University head men's basketball coach Stew Morrill addressed the suspension of 7'1" Aggie redshirt-freshman Anthony DiLoreto during a press conference with reporters Friday.

DiLoreto was arrested and booked into the Cache County jail Monday night for allegedly being in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Morrill announced the suspension of DiLoreto later that night.

"My thoughts are number one, very disappointing," Morrill said. "Number two, I've given guys second chances throughout my career based on recommendations from people I trust. What an individual does with that second chance is really up to them."

DiLoreto entered the program with one strike against him already, criminally, having been convicted last year of attempted bank robbery in connection with an incident in Wisconsin in August 2008. DiLoreto, a Minnesota native, was ordered to serve 90 days in jail in connection with that incident and was scheduled to serve them in 30-day increments over the next three summers.

Morrill is also taking personal responsibility for any criticism that may be levied at the university for having DiLoreto in the program. "I would say any criticism on that matter should be directed at me, not our administration. They trusted my judgment and allowed me to go down this road. Any criticism, whoever wants to criticize, and there's always going to be those, should be directed toward me."

Morrill indicated that DiLoreto's arrest and suspension has taken him off the team. "Anthony at this point is not a part of this team. He will not practice, he will not travel. Otherwise we will try to help him in every way, as far as his academics and legal process."

Morrill refused to speculate on DiLoreto's future with the team and whether or not he would have a chance to play again under Morrill. "We're not even going down that road. There's way too much water to go under the bridge before we start talking about that."
