USU Athletic Director addresses conference alignments

By USU Athletics Media Relations

Utah State Athletic Director Scott Barnes addressed the media following USU’s scrimmage Saturday

ON POTENTIAL WAC CONFERENCE ALIGNMENT...

“We felt very confident in the alignment we had, the security we had in WAC members and BYU we thought that was the very best next step for Utah State Athletics. That has gone away obviously that has gone away for reasons you’ve all heard. That said every oar is in the water we are exploring all possibilities. Our focus is on making the WAC better that said we are at a time and place where we need to look at every opportunity there is out there. Any opportunity that we pursue would be the very best for our student athletes and coaches.”

ON IF BYU IS OUT OF THE WAC PICTURE...

“We do not know. That has not been determined yet, but we do believe that answer is coming soon.”

ON CONTACT LEVEL WITH BYU...

“My phone has been burning up. It has been burning up with both calls in and out. That’s based on making sure we have all of our lines open and all of our options open. As it relates to BYU one thing I want to make very clear is that the position that we are in now doesn’t have anything to do with BYU. BYU has been a great partner in this and everyone needs to know that. Enough said on how we got where we are, but BYU has been a great partner.”

ON USU POTENTIAL OF JOINING THE MOUNTAIN WEST...

“Every option is in play.”

ON WHAT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE...

“You have to be determined. In the WAC we have formed a task force membership committee. We had our first conference call yesterday and we’ll move quickly to look at whatever options we have to improve the WAC and that is the focus.”

Enough with improving the WAC. It is dying. Lets move on to the MWC!!!! This has to be the best option out there. We will be left high and dry in the end if we don't. Please administration, athletic director and staff, stop putting our future on the line for the WAC which doesn't have a very bright future for itself. Even a WAC with BYU is not as good as a MWC without!!! PLEASE!!!!

I'm sorry, but since when are we partners with yBu, this is a sad week. I just wish Barnes and Albrecht would look back at history and see our best move is to hang up the phone with yBu. Sure if there is an option from the MWC or a new potential league ESPN inspired we want in. But we can't be calling them anymore, can they not see where this got us. You never get in bed with pigs. Wake up and get out while you still can! Please, for the sake of my children and their children stop these back room deals with yBu. Man I wish I was the phone company, and could cut all access to the zoobies.
