By USU Athletics Media Relations

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State’s volleyball team had its final tune-up of the preseason Wednesday night inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum with an intra-squad scrimmage as the White team defeated the Blue team two sets to one (25-19, 25-21, 11-15).

“It’s always nice to put on a jersey, have a referee and change the environment,” said fifth-year head coach Grayson DuBose. “We’ve gotten better and better as the preseason has gone along and it will be nice to finally play somebody else this weekend.”

Junior opposite side hitter Emily Kortsen (Hollister, Calif.) paced the White team as she had seven kills, 12 digs and four blocks, while hitting .438 (7-0-16). Freshman outside hitter Tumua Etimani (Richardson, Texas) also had a solid match for the White squad as she posted a match-high eight kills.

Senior setter Chelsea Fowles (Hollister, Calif.) led the Blue team as she finished the match with five kills and hit .833 (5-0-6). Senior middle blocker Katie Astle (Sandy, Utah) added seven kills and senior libero Christine Morrill (Neola, Utah) had a match-high 16 digs.

Utah State will officially begin the 2010 season on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. against UC Davis in the first match of the Utah Classic hosted by the University of Utah. USU will then play the host Utes Saturday night at 7 p.m.
