Huntsman Appointment Good for Utah

He works closely with the governor because Utah State Senator Lyle Hillyard, R-Logan, is chairman of the Executive Appropriations Committee. Yet Hillyard says he did not have an inkling that Governor Jon Huntsman had been picked to be Ambassador to China by President Barack Obama.Hillyard believes it’s an ideal appointment for Huntsman because he knows the language and the culture well. “I think it’s a great tribute to Utah to have someone with that prestigious of an appointment,” Hillyard says. “China is very clearly one of the key players of global power, so having Governor Huntsman in that position I think is really great,” Hillyard continued. “For the state of Utah, we obviously will miss him. He’s done a good job in the leadership and it’s really been a different kind of leadership.”Hillyard will be a guest on KVNU’S Crosstalk show Wednesday and he’ll talk more about Huntsman and compare his kind of leadership with Lieutenant Governor Gary Herbert, who will soon be Utah’s governor. Hillyard will also talk about the special session of the legislature which opens Wednesday at 12 noon.
