Three underage girls unexpectedly crashed a car into one of their homes Friday night in Smithfield. Police Chief John McCoy says the girls were driving the car of one of their parents. They were in the driveway when the driver thought she’d put the car in reverse and stepped on the accelerator. The vehicle was actually in drive and crashed into the home. McCoy says estimated damage to the car is $4,000, while the home sustained roughly $6,000 damage. The girls received minor injuries. The parents were notified and the girls were released into their care. McCoy says this is a classic case of making sure the car is in the proper gear before driving, and not driving without a driver’s license.
