Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, is not on board with a Food and Drug Administration proposal to regulate tobacco product.Hatch, a non-smoking member of the Mormon Church, says the FDA doesn’t have the money it needs to take care of its current responsibilities to regulate tobacco. Without additional money, he says, the agency’s primary efforts would be harmed.Another member of the LDS Church in the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the vote should be simple. Reid argues that it is a matter of endangering our children’s health and allowing a multi-billion dollar tobacco industry to poison and prey upon them. The proposed legislation would ban flavoring cigarettes with herbs or spices.
