NURLA looking for garbage options

Where will Cache County’s garbage be taken in the future now that voters in a referendum said Box Elder County should not sell its Little Mountain Landfill to NURLA, the Northern Utah Regional Landfill Authority? Since then Box Elder County has dropped out of NURLA, which is now chaired by Logan City Mayor Randy Watts. Watts says an update will be given at today’s meeting of the Cache County Solid Waste Advisory Board, which meets at 4 p.m. in the Logan Environmental Service Center. Watts says NURLA will still try to see if something might be worked out with Little Mountain. “But the White’s Valley, which is a little further up the road to the north, is another area that we are looking at,” Watts says. “I know it comes with some opposition because of the watershed for a lot of that area north around Tremonton, Garland area. So we’ll have to see how that works.” Watts says Cache County has purchased a site in the Clarkston area but it’s believed it would be better to have a larger site where there is more open space and less impact on citizens.
