Art on the Lawn and chili cook-off

The Fifth Annual “Art On the Lawn” event is coming up Saturday and this year it will once again feature day-long entertainment and respected local artists at work in a spacious and casual setting.Lucy Peterson Watkins, wife of North Logan Mayor Carey Watkins, is host of the event which starts at 10 a.m. at 1491 East 2300 North in North Logan on property formerly owned by her parents, the late Dean and Bessie Peterson. On Wednesday’s KVNU Crosstalk show, Watkins said the event will be interactive and hands-on.”It’s interactive, I’m saying, because it’s very, very casual,” said Watkins. “We will be having plein air artists, very fine ones like Coleen Howell, Trent Gudmundson, Jeff Wallace will be painting. Also, we’ll have pottery. It’s just a wonderful, laid-back event and it’s absolutely free. We use the monies that we get from this to give back to the arts.”Watkins says an art show and silent auction will be held inside the historic home on the property which was built in 1880. A highlight, she says, is a chili-cook-off with the chili coming from local restaurants and the bowls, which were made by Logan High School students, will be on sale.
