Gary Wilkinson, Jaycee Carroll make NBA summer league rosters

Former Utah State All-American’s Jaycee Carroll and Gary Wilkinson will both be members of NBA summer league rosters in 2009 as Carroll will play with the New Orleans Hornets and Wilkinson will play with the Utah Jazz.Utah will play five games from July 6-10 at the Orlando Pro Summer League, which will be held at the RDV Sportsplex. The Jazz will play games against Boston, and split squad made up of players from New Jersey and Philadelphia, Indiana, Orlando and Oklahoma City. Box scores, game recaps and cumulative statistics from the event will be made available by visiting www.utahjazz.com or www.orlandomagic.com.Wilkinson, a 6-9 forward from South Jordan, Utah, was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press and the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year this past season as he led Utah State to a school record 30 wins (30-5), its second-straight regular season WAC title, its first WAC Tournament Championships, and the school’s 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament all-time, including its sixth in the last 10 seasons.As a senior, Wilkinson led Utah State in scoring and rebounding with 17.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He finished the year ranking second in the WAC in scoring and free throw shooting (.826), was fourth in field goal shooting (.580), and sixth in rebounding.New Orleans will play five games from July 10-19 at the Las Vegas Pro Summer League, which takes place at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion. The 10-day affair includes 21 NBA teams and general admission tickets are still available at the Thomas & Mack Box Office and at UNLVtickets.com. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for children ages 3-12 and seniors. Carroll, a 6-2, 175-pound guard, spent the 2009 season playing for Teramo Basket, a team in the Italian first division, and averaged 15.9 points and 4.6 rebounds in 34 games. During the season, he shot 50.8 percent from the field, 46.5 percent from three-point range, and 83.3 percent from the free throw line.During the summer of 2008, Carroll was named to the Orlando NBA Summer League second-team as a member of the New Jersey Nets as he averaged 13.6 points and shot 47.9 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from three-point range, and 80.0 percent from the free throw line.As a senior at Utah State in 2008, Carroll was named the WAC’s Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press for the second straight year as he ranked first in the nation in three-point shooting at 49.8 percent, was second in the nation in free throw shooting at 91.9 percent, and 13th in scoring with 22.4 points per game. He also ranked 10th in the WAC in field goal shooting at 52.6 percent.
