Logan man charged with child sex abuse

A 37-year old Logan man is charged with inappropriately touching a child on at least six occasions over the past year. Edgar Mendiola was pulled over by the Utah Highway Patrol in Davis County and was discovered to have a warrant out for his arrest in Cache County on child sexual abuse charges. Bear River Mental Health Services CEO, Reed Ernstrom, confirms Mendiola is employed by the department as a skills development coordinator and case manager. Ernstrom said Mendiola is on administrative leave. Logan Police Lieutenant Rod Peterson says the police feel Mendiola occupied a special position of trust with the victim, but the alleged abuse was not associated with his employment. Peterson says the victim reported the abuse to an adult and an investigation was opened.
