Despiite reports from the National Weather Service of potentially serious rain, hail and thunderstorm activity Friday afternoon and evening, mother nature cooperated with the planned Logan City Independence Day celebration and fireworks. Thousands of area residents turned out in and around Utah State University’s Romney Stadium. As the evening progressed closer to the fireworks display, put on by Logan-based Fireworks West, the winds picked up and dark clouds began to gather from the north. Appoximately 30 minutes before the fireworks show was to begin, the clouds parted and the winds died down providing ideal, temperate conditions for the choreographed pyrotechnics. The program wasn’t without gilches, however, when a connection malfunctioned with the music at the very beginning. Fireworks West uses key musical queues to ignite the fireworks in order to keep the show properly choreographed. After a slight delay, the malfunction was fixed and the fireworks display continued without any additional problems.
