Wallis family selling fine art to benefit UFOC

The Utah Festival Opera Company is entering the second week of its 2009 season and this is also the second week for a special Fine Art Exhibition and Sale to benefit the opera company. UFOC Managing Director Gary Griffin says renowned artist Kent Wallis, who is the new Chairman of the Board, offered to help the company’s financial situation by bringing an art show to the Dansante featuring not only his own paintings but also of his three sons, Eric, Jeff and Shawn Wallis, all prominent artists. “We have turned that large room in the back of the Dansante into one of the most beautiful art galleries you’ve ever seen,” Griffin explained on KVNU’s Crosstalk Show on Monday. “There’s over 80 Wallis paintings there that are for sale and people are just welcome to come and look at them. “They’ve been very generous in the amount of money they’ve donated to the opera company. We’ve already sold two of them. We’re already getting lots of people coming.” The art show is on display Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 4 to six p.m. through August 8th. Griffin says there will be an artist’s reception honoring the Wallis family Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dansante, located at 59 South 100 West in Logan.
