The American Red Cross Shelter, set up at 600 East Center is closing today. The shelter opened Saturday shortly after a powerful landslide damaged several homes and caused the complete collapse of one home, trapping three people inside. The bodies of a 43 year old mother and her two children were recovered on Tuesday.Anna Maria Arnljots, of the Logan Red Cross Chapter, says more than 20 evacuees have been sheltered since then but she is confident everyone will have a place to live. She says there has been an amazing outpouring of offers of help from a wide variety of groups in the community to help these people.Arnljots says the Red Cross is also able to help many evacuees like these with their first month’s rent when they are forced to move after a disaster. She says the immediate family members of those who died in the landslide will be staying in a hotel while the Red Cross works with the Bear River Association of Governments to ensure that they have a new place to live . For those interested in providing additional assistance, the Red Cross encourages donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund or to the local chapter. For more information call 752-1125.
