Box Elder County is completing the purchase this week of the Stock Building Supply building which will be renovated by spring into a new justice court facility. The $515,000 purchase was made with money from a $2.5 million fund that had been set for a new court building. County Commission Chairman Rich Van Dyke objected to a 2005 proposal to build a new justice court in the southeast corner of the county parking lot where the old jail was located. Van Dyke says there is a huge difference now because the county won’t have to bond and the project can be completed at one-third the cost of the previous proposal. Van Dyke says justice court and district court judges are pleased about the new location and see the potential for cost savings in sharing security resources since the buildings are adjacent to each other.
