Jail inmates riot

A small group of inmates organized a riot last week at the Cache County Jail. Lt. Brian Locke says the group tore up jail clothing and flushed it down the toilets, causing numerous cells to flood. Locke says the group had no demands and it appears they did it just to cause a disruption. Nine inmates refused to obey orders and a team of highly trained and specialized individuals went into the cells and cuffed the inmates. Locke says half the inmates were county inmates and the other half were federal. Eight were charged with rioting and destruction of jail property; a ninth inmate has yet to be charged. Locke says they will not only receive criminal charges, but will face jail discipline which could include lock down, loss of food privileges and phone privileges. Official charges were filed Tuesday
