Last week’s death of Hyde Park man likely involved texting while driving

Another local fatality on the highways was probably caused by texting while driving, officials say. Last week, 19-year-old Jacob Brent Hawkes died at an Ogden hospital just hours after his vehicle went through a red light and collided with a Dodge Ram. The crash happened at about 3700 North and U.S. Highway 91. Cache County Attorney James Swink said the investigation into the crash shows that Hawkes was not wearing a seat belt and he was also texting just minutes before the crash. Officials report that an unfinished text message was also found on his phone. A press conference will be held Monday to provide more information about the investigation.
