Motorist killed in crash on S.R. 142 Monday night, alcohol believed to be involved

A second automobile crash led to another death Monday in Cache County, and law enforcement officials believe the second crash involved alcohol.At approximately 8:40 p.m. Monday night a crash on State Road 142 west of Richmond, Katie Marie Elliot Sanders of Lewiston, 24, was killed in the crash. It appears her husband, 25-year old Cassey Gordon Sanders failed to negotiate the curve and overcorrected as he tried to regain control. The car crossed the westbound lanes on the north side and rolled through a fence. Katie was partially ejected and killed instantly due to the impact. A Utah Highway Patrol report states Cassey climbed out of the car and tried to flag down motorists. UHP Srg. Tony Hutson says Cassey was taken to the hospital with head and neck injuries and released this morning. He was then booked into the Cache County jail on suspicion of drunk driving and will face automobile homicide charges. Cassey was recently arrested and booked in the Cache County Jail on August 7 for Intoxication.The crash came hours after 80-year-old Barbara Hales of Logan was killed when struck by a pickup truck in the ShopKo parking lot in Logan.
