The United Way of Cache Valley is hosting an ice cream social on Saturday and everyone’s invited to attend. Executive Director Doug Stephenson says the event is to celebrate United Way of Cache Valley’s 35th anniversary and also to launch its fall campaign. The ice cream social is from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Logan Tabernacle grounds. On KVNU’s Crosstalk Show, Stephenson said he’s hoping businesses and individuals will want to share the good things they have in life with those who have less.”Most of the work that we do is through the payroll deduction plan from employers at work and people can sign up to participate with the United Way and we’ll take as little as a dollar a paycheck,” Stephenson said. He cited a number of individuals who do just that, including some employees at Deseret Industries. “All those dollars add up and at the end of the fiscal year we divide them up among the different agencies that we support,” Stephenson continued. “We have 18 agencies in the valley that we work with.”He says the 18 organizations the United Way partners with are the American Red Cross, Bear River Head Start, BRAG Senior Companions, Bridgerland Literacy, Cache Community Food Pantry, Cache Employment and Training Center, CAPSA, Centro de la Familia of Utah, Child and Family Support Center, Common Ground, Community Nursing Services, English Language Center, the Children’s Justice Center, Multicultural Center, Options for Independence, Project Pals, Senior Citizens Center and Sunshine Terrace Home Care.
