Longtime Jazz coach Sloan inducted to Hall of Fame

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) – Jerry Sloan, the only NBA coach to win 1,000 games with one franchise, has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.Sloan was enshrined shortly after John Stockton, his longtime point guard. Together they helped the Jazz reach consecutive NBA finals in 1997-98.Not surprisingly, Sloan thanked his former coaches, from high school through the NBA. He also thanked late Jazz owner Larry Miller for sticking with him through the years, saying, “loyalty is the No. 1 reason I’m still coaching the Jazz.”Sloan, fourth on the career coaching wins list, was part of a class that also included Michael Jordan, David Robinson, and Rutgers women’s coach C. Vivian Stringer.
