The Whittier Community Center’s Adventure Playground is about to become a reality.Executive Director Kendall Andelin says cement is being laid and other work is being done leading up to the volunteer-led build between Sept. 14-19.Andelin said hundreds of people have signed up to volunteer, especially in the evening hours, but he said more volunteers are needed for morning and afternoons. He said there is also a critical need for tools.”There’s a tool list on the Web site. We are especially critically short on drills,” Andelin said, noting that there was some money set aside for replacement of tools if any donated tools are damaged. “If people could run their drills out to us, we would very much appreciate it.”He said about 135 power drills are needed and they can be brought to the trailer at the Whittier Center between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday.Andelin said the Adventure Playground is a one-of-a-kind project developed with the help of children.
