USU soccer set to take on Utah at Rio Tinto Stadium tonight

LOGAN, Utah – After four-straight matches on the road, the Utah State women’s soccer team returns to the state of Utah to take on instate rival the University of Utah on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. The match will be played at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.Rio Tinto Stadium is the home of Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake. This is the first match that the Aggies have played in a professional stadium. The world-class venue seats 20,000 people for MLS matches and other sporting events. The capacity can increase to 25,000 for concerts. Stadium amenities include 32 luxury suites, a 2,000-square foot Stadium Club, 1,000 premium club seats, five locker rooms, a 60-foot Video Board, and ribbon LED boards stretching 200 feet long.Utah holds a 10-1 advantage over Utah State. The Aggies only win was a, 1-0, overtime win in 1997. Last season, the Aggies fell to the Utes, 2-0, in Salt Lake City.Junior forward Lauren Hansen moved up to third on the Utah State point total with 51 points after a goal against Seattle on Sept. 20. Brigid Turner (2000-03) is second on the all-time list with 73 points. Hansen has averaged 20.5 points per season in her first two campaigns. If she sustains this average, she will pass the Aggies’ all-time point scorer Jayme Gordy (1997-2000) who scored 77 in her storied USU career.Tickets are $5 and kids wearing their soccer uniforms will be admitted for free.Live stats will be available for the match against Utah through the women’s soccer page on www.utahstateaggies.com, by clicking on GameTracker in the current events box.Following the match with the Utes, the Aggies take on another instate rival, facing BYU on Saturday, Sept. 26.
