Candidates for Logan Mayor divided on landlord licensing

They agree on some issues but when it comes to the question of landlord licensing the two candidates for mayor of Logan are miles apart. Incumbent Mayor Randy Watts says he favors landlord licensing for safety reasons. He’s also willing to consider being part of the Utah Landlord Association which is organized in several Utah cities. Watts’ challenger, Mike Morrill, is strongly against it. “Why would we want to hire someone from Clearfield, Salt Lake to come in and tell us how to be good landlords?” Morrill asks. “We have phenomenal landlords.” “Logan’s a great place,” Morrill continues. “I do not believe we need to hire somebody from outside to come in and run our city. We can talk to landlords who have some very poor properties out there and they need to be cleaned up, absolutely.” The Logan Municipal Council has put off a decision on landlord licensing until after the November election.
