LOGAN, Utah Junior middle blocker Katie Astle (Sandy, Utah) recorded sixkills and hit .667 (6-0-9) overall to help Utah State defeat San Jose State3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-14) here Thursday night in a Western AthleticConference match. USU improves to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in the WAC with thewin, while SJSU falls to 0-13 on the season and 0-3 in league play with theloss. Sophomore outside hitter Liz McArthur (St. George, Utah) had a team-highnine kills for Utah State, while sophomore opposite side hitter EmilyKortsen (Hollister, Calif.) finished the match with seven kills and 10 digs.Junior libero Christine Morrill (Neola, Utah) had a team-high 13 digs forUSU to go along with two service aces. Taylor Japhet had 14 kills and seven digs to lead San Jose State. Kortsen and McArthur each had three kills in the first set as USU hit .133(8-4-3) and SJSU hit .114 (13-9-35). USU also had three service aces in thefirst set as compared to four service errors for the Spartans. Utah State rallied for the two-point win in the second set as it trailed16-11 before going on a 12-3 run en route to the 26-24 win. In the secondset, the Aggies hit .096 (13-8-52) and the Spartans hit .164 (14-5-55).SJSU had three more service errors in the second set as compared to oneservice ace and one service error for USU. In the third and final set, Utah State raced out to an 11-3 lead and neverlooked back as it hit .296 (10-2-27) and held San Jose State to a .129(12-8-31) hitting percentage. SJSU had three more service errors in thethird set, while USU had two service aces and no errors. Astle led theAggies with three kills in the final set. Utah State finished the match by hitting .156 (31-14-109), while San JoseState hit .140 (39-22-121). USU also had six more service ace (6-0) andeight fewer service errors (10-2) in the match, while the Spartans had ninemore digs (55-46).
