Hospitals restrict visitors to limit spread of flu

Responding to the threat of swine flu, at least six Utah hospitals are barring children and those who are ill from visiting maternity wards and newborns. Other hospitals are now discussing which restrictions to implement as the incidence of flu continues to rise. Logan Regional Hospital Public Relations Director Doug Thompson says the hospital is continuing to restrict visitors to age 14 and older as a precautionary measure to protect both patients and the public. “We instigated this restriction on September 15th because of a slight increase in flu-like symptoms reported at local health clinics,” Thompson says. “We just felt like it was a good idea to protect both those young people and the other people in the hospital.” Thompson says the restrictions are in effect for all areas of Logan Regional Hospital.
