Arts Spotlight 10/5: Cache County School’s Art Collection

In honor of National Arts & Humanities Month, we are featuring a Cache Valley arts organization a day.In the late 1980s Cache County School District Superintendent Clark Puffer established a committee to take an inventory of original art by Utah artists that had been donated to or purchased by, the schools. Many were in poor condition. Some had hung in cafeterias over garbage cans, behind ladders and backdrops on stages, in dusty closets, etc. A few of the paintings were sold to raise money to finance the restoration of the collection. Now many of the approximately 70 artworks by artists such as J. T. Harwood, Minerva Tiechert, Calvin Fletcher, John Henri Moser, Florence Ware, Lee Green Richards, and William Wendell Perkins are on display at the district office building, which is open weekdays from 8:00 to 4:30. Those not on display are in storage awaiting the funds necessary to restore them. www.ccsdut.orgThis arts organization profile was brought to you by the Cache Valley Arts Summit.
