Hardware Ranch hosting elk festival this weekend

The seventh-annual Elk Festival is scheduled to be held Saturday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area about 18 miles east of Hyrum on State Road 101. Ranch Manager Dan Christensen said things ahve been scaled down thsi year because of the tight economy, but there will still be plenty for families to enjoy. “We’ll have a variety of activities up here, the ever popular pumpkin painting, the hand stamping with the animal tracks, some mountain men, some rides out on the meadow with horse-drawn wagons,” Christensen said. “We encourage people to come up and see us,” Whether or not you will see some elk is still in question. Christensen said the elk have not come out of the mountains and into the meadow yet, but they could come down by the time the festival starts. Those attending the festival are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and eat in the ranch’s dining room.
