Bringing HOPE to victims of domestic violence

The first annual HOPE Festival will be held at Utah State University in conjunction with the national Clothesline Project on Wednesday, October 28th from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm in the Sunburst Lounge of the Taggart Student Center. The HOPE festival, which stands for Healing, Outreach, Passion and Effort, is a partnership between the USU Sexual Abuse and Anti Violence Information Office, called SAVVI, and the USU Womens Resource Center to support CAPSA, Cache Valley’s rape crisis and domestic violence shelter. SAVVI coordinator Rachel Brighton says the national economic climate and resulting decreases in federal funding have dealt significant financial blows to CAPSA. Festival organizers see the festival as a way to help alleviate CAPSA’s financial burden and ensure that its critical services remain intact. Local businesses and artisans will participate in the festival and will sell their goods and services with 25 percent of the proceeds going to CAPSA.
