A 52-year old Hyrum woman has been accused of stealing from homes she cleaned in the valley. Cache County Sheriff Lt. Matt Bilodeau says Maria E. Arellano was picked up for shoplifting at Deseret Industries in Logan last week. While she was questioned police noticed her wearing a Mountain Crest High School Wrestling Championship ring. Bilodeau said it seemed suspicious enough that an investigation was opened. It was found that Arellano allegedly stole thousands of dollars in jewelry from prominent homes in the valley while housecleaning. Bilodeau says one ring recovered is valued at $12,000, and many more pieces of jewelry have yet to be connected with victims. Arellano was booked into the Cache County Jail on multiple felony counts of burglary, theft, and receiving stolen property. Bilodeau says the case is still active and the Sheriff’s office is asking people to contact them if they’ve hired Arellano for cleaning services.
