The Cache Regional Theatre Company launches its 2009 season this week with the Tony award-winning musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and then Monday November 9th in the Ellen Eccles Theatre. There is also a matinee on Saturday, November 7th, at 1:30 p.m.Nan Wharton, drama teacher at Sky View High School, has been with the company since 2001 and for the first time this year she has the role of director. It’s the first time “Thoroughly Modern Millie” has been done in Cache Valley and Wharton calls it a fun family show.”It’s very light-hearted,” explains Wharton. “It takes place in 1922. It has a lot of very fun songs and dance, a wide variety of styles of dance. Of course there’s tapping, though there’s not just tapping that goes on. It’s a lot of fun. I think people will go away humming the songs and really enjoying it. Something we need in this time.”Wharton says Meagan Bagley is playing the leading role of Millie, John Rash plays Jimmie, the juvenile lead, and Helen Cooper plays the part of Muzzie. Kody Rash has created more than 100 costumes for the show.
