More than a week after the November 3rd municipal election, Hyde Park residents learn tonight who their next mayor will be. After the votes had been counted on election night Tom Price had received 430 votes and Brian Cox got one vote less, 429.Now the provisional votes have been processed and they will be opened tonight at 6:30 at the start of a city council meeting. Outgoing Mayor David Kooyman says if the vote is tied, or within two or three votes, the losing candidate can ask for a recount.Kooyman found himself in a similar situation eight years ago when he was tied with Marilyn Grunig on election night. There were no provisional ballots and after a recount Kooyman won by three votes. If it would have been tied one solution approved is a flip of a coin to decide the winner.
