UHP identifies victim of likely suicide on Valley View Highway

A 42-year old Logan man was killed this morning when he walked into oncoming traffic on the Valley View Highway. Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry says it appears that Michael Ross Howard intentionally entered the travel lane. Howard reportedly left his vehicle running at the exit of the park and ride lot just west of the SR-23 junction. The accident occurred at approximately 6:16 a.m. A UHP report states a 2003 semi truck driven by a River Heights man was traveling eastbound when it struck the man. Lt. Perry says the truck driver says he didn’t see the man until the last second, and even then didn’t realize it was a person. Perry says neither speed nor weather conditions contributed to the crash. One lane of traffic was closed for 3 ½ hours while investigators processed the scene.
