Brigham City officer receives Unsung Hero award

A Brigham City police officer is the recipient of the International Law Enforcement Torch Run Clarion “Unsung Hero” award. Police Lt. Mike Nelson received the award at the organization’s conference in Connecticut on November 13th.The Box Elder News Journal reports that Lt. Nelson is the only officer from Utah to ever receive this award. The award was created to recognize outstanding individuals who contribute to the success of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Lt. Nelson has been involved in the torch run since its inception in Utah in 1983. He has helped his department raise money for the torch run and has participated in the torch run himself. He has also coordinated all the “Tip a Cop” fundraising events in Utah with 25 restaurants involved.
