First Logan council meeting of 2010 filled with ceremony, controversy

The first Logan City council meeting of the 2010 calendar year will be eventful and is filled with what have proven to be hot topics over the past several months. Not only will re-elected Mayor Randy Watts take the oath of office on Tuesday for another four years in office, but councilmembers-elect Dean Quayle and Holly Daines will also take an oath of office. The ceremony will be accompanied by a special flag ceremony with Logan City Police and Logan City Fire Department Honor Guard.Danielle Bird will address the council to discuss the recent accreditation of Bridgerland Literacy, followed by a State of the City Address by Mayor Watts.Presentations and discussions on some of the most controversial issues facing Logan City over the past year will also take place. James Geier is scheduled to give a 10 minute presentation titled, “Completion of Park Strip Reclamation in Single Family Zones.” Blythe Ahlstrom, chair of the Landlord Licensing Committee, will give a report and recommendation on the controversial landlord licensing program proposed by Mayor Watts.There will also be a workshop item discussing vehicle booting, led by city attorney Kymber Housley.
