Woman sent to hospital after Old Main sledding accident

A 20-year old Smithfield woman was transported to the hospital Monday morning after a sledding accident on USU’s Old Main Hill. USU Police Lt. Shane Sessions says the emergency call came to the dispatch center at 11:17 a.m. saying the woman hit a tree. Sessions says there were several people going down the hill on tubes and plastic saucers. The woman was on a saucer and lost control when she went into a group of trees. She hit the tree on her left side and reported difficulty breathing and pain in her chest and hip. Her injuries appeared relatively minor. Sessions says saucers are especially dangerous down steep hills because they are very slick and hard to control.
