Heritage Center CEO leaving for university job in Reno

Steve DeLong is leaving his job as CEO at the American West Heritage Center. DeLong came to the center from Nevada and now he’s going back to that state to begin a job in higher education. DeLong will be a Director of Development for the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources at the University of Nevado at Reno.DeLong says he’s proud of what’s happened at the Heritage Center over the past five and a half years. It was struggling financially when he became CEO and he says finances have not only been stabilized but programming contributions have greatly increased.He says attendance has also grown from less than 40,000 a year to more than 80,.000 visitors in 2009. Bill Varga, who has been Executive Director of the Utah Botanical Center, will serve as interim CEO at the Center.
