Cache County Council reconsiders accepting gifts

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Cache County Council members are reconsidering a long-standing practice of accepting free tickets to Utah Festival Opera performances after questions about its legality have arisen.On an annual basis, the opera company has offered the council and the county executive two complimentary tickets for one show of their choosing each season.County Attorney James Swink said he’s made county officials aware of state law regarding gifts.State law says public officials can’t knowingly receive gifts if it will influence them in their official duties.Last year, the county awarded the opera company about $400,000.
