Utah State students to research bacterial genes

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Students at Utah State University will soon begin conducting research on bacterial genes for a federal project that could lead to better medications.USU’s Center for Integrated Biosystems was one of 20 teams selected to work on the Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute’s undergraduate research program in Microbial Genome Annotation.The university says it was chosen for the study because it demonstrated the potential to add to its curriculum by participating in the research.Kenneth White, interim director of the CIB, says the work will build on other studies at the center, including one looking at the ecology of the Great Salt Lake.
