Sliding snow briefly closed a highway in Logan Canyon Sunday as avalanche officials continued to warn of dangers in mountain areas around the state. U.S. 89 in Logan Canyon was closed for about an hour on Sunday after a small avalanche covered the road just after 11 a.m. No one was hurt and the road re-opened at around 12:30 p.m.Meanwhile, Little Cottonwood Canyon was also closed briefly Sunday morning because of snow across the road and a skier died in an out-of-bounds avalanche near Snowbasin ski resort Sunday.The Utah Avalanche Center on Sunday said that heavy snowfall and high winds are making for dangerous avalanche conditions in mountain backcountry areas throughout the state. The center urged people to stay out of those areas.
