Box Elder County dividing offices

Two additional candidates will be up for election this November than the last general election. That’s because the Box Elder County Commission voted last week to divide the combined offices of Assessor/Treasurer and Recorder/Clerk.According to the Box Elder News Journal, the vote to make the offices separate for Treasurer and Assessor was unanimous. In fact, the division is a state mandate and the county had been given four years to make that change and the time is up.The vote to separate the Recorder and Clerk offices was 2 to 1 with Commissioner Brian Shaffer voting against it. The other commissioners agreed that with the increasing time Recorder/Clerk Lou Adams spends on elections, the less time there is for the duties of recorder.
