First District Congressman Rob Bishop, R-Utah, is blasting President Obama after the NASA component of the president’s budget failed to include funding for the Constellation program, including the Ares 1 rocket and the Orion project, significant parts of which are manufactured at the Utah-based Space Systems Group of ATK.Bishop says this is disturbing news for Utah and the country as a whole. He says cutting funding for space exploration will put the U.S. light years behind in vital science and technology advancements. In addition to weakening America’s leading edge on scientific advancement, Bishop says Obama will put hundreds of Utahns out of work by not funding the Ares 1 project.Bishop says the news is especially devastating after 340 employees at ATK were laid off last week due to the nation’s current economic climate and previous bad decisions in Washington.
