Tuesday was an important day for Utah lawmakers because budget revenue projections were just released. Monday, Presidents Day, was a holiday for legislators but Rep. Jack Draxler, R-District 3, was busy talking to constituents. Draxler says that he feels public education came out very well in the budget for this year, but higher education did not fare as well. He says as far as 2011 is concerned, a lot depends on the new budget projections.”We’re hoping that those show that at least we’ve leveled off and aren’t continuing to drop in our revenue projections,” Draxler says. “If that is the case, I think we can protect public and higher ed reasonably well in the 2011 budget.”If the projections are continued reduction in revenues to the state, then we’ve got tough decisions, some more tough decisions on our hands.”Draxler says his own bill that has to do with compressed natural gas for vehicles comes before the transportation committee Tuesday.
