Logan man arrested on charges of injuring baby

A 22-year-old Logan man was booked into the Cache County Jail this week on two second-degree felony charges of child abuse. Jonathan J. Monsen was arrested Thursday morning following an investigation that stemmed from allegations that his 25-day old son was abused. The allegations surfaced after the child was taken to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, according to police reports. On Jan. 13, a Department of Child and Family Services case worker reported to police that the 25-day-old child had been transferred to the hospital with head and leg injuries. Investigators responded to Salt Lake to investigate and found that the child had a serious head injury along with broken bones in the rib and leg areas. According to police reports, the fractures in the rib area appeared to have been caused in two separate incidents. During interviews, Monsen reportedly told investigators that he was involved in both incidents. The child has since been released from the hospital and turned over to the custody of his mother.
