USU authors examine agriculture’s impact on economy

Utah agriculture contributes almost 14 percent of the state’s economy. That fact was part of the findings of a study by Utah State University authors Ruby Ward and Paul Jakus who completed a comprehensive study of Utah agriculture’s contribution to the state of Utah’s overall economy. They found that agriculture contributes jobs, income, fiscal revenue and quality of life to both rural and urban Utahans. Findings of the study will be presented by the authors to Utah Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Leonard Blackham. The study found that the agricultural processing sector and the production of agriculture sector together account for $15.2 billion in total output in Utah after adjusting for multiplier effects.
