Anderson: Covey is a ‘franchise player’

The news is official and it hit both Fox Business News and the Wall Street Journal on Thursday along with state and local media: bestselling author Stephen R. Covey is joining the Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University as a full tenured Professor. Dean Douglas Anderson says Covey will be working for free, although his appointment was made possible by a $1.5 million donation from Jon M. Huntsman. On KVNU’s For the People program Thursday, Anderson said Covey will be a professor in the Department of Management in the Huntsman School of Business at USU.”That sets a standard of excellence that is unparalleled,” Anderson said. “It’s going to help us enormously in our further recruiting. “It’s a little bit like he’s a franchise player, if you want to take the analogy from basketball. We’re going to build a team around him. We’ve got a great team already and now it’s going to get a lot better, that’s the first thing.”He says Huntsman’s contribution will help fund the Stephen R. Covey Center for Leadership which will house Covey’s works on ethical management.Anderson will talk more about the appointment on Wednesday, Feb. 24 when he will be a guest on KVNU’s Crosstalk show at 9:10 a.m.
