LOGAN, Utah For the third straight week, Utah State’s men’s basketball team is the top three-point shooting team in the nation according to the latest NCAA statistics released Monday. Utah State also received votes in both national polls for the second straight week and is ranked 28th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll with 24 votes and 33rd in the Associated Press poll with nine votes. On the season, Utah State is shooting 42.3 percent from three-point range, which ranks first nationally. USU also ranks third in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.59), fifth in free throw shooting (.768), sixth in fewest turnovers committed per game (10.3) and 12th in overall shooting (.485). Overall, USU is one of just two teams in the nation to rank among the top 12 nationally in all three shooting categories along with Brigham Young. Overall this year, Utah State ranks among the top 22 nationally in 10 different statistical categories as it also ranks 13th in the nation in scoring margin (+12.9), 14th in assists per game (16.4), 15th in scoring defense (60.1), 21st in rebounding margin (+5.8) and 22nd in winning percentage (.793). Individually, junior forward Tai Wesley ranks 17th in the nation in field goal shooting at 55.7 percent and senior guard Jared Quayle ranks 19th with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.55-to-1.00. Utah State (23-6, 12-2) has won 13 straight games and 17 of its last 19 overall, and is tied with New Mexico for the second-longest active winning streak in the country behind Butler who has won 18 straight games. Utah State (23-6, 12-2) will play its final two games of the regular season at home this week as it hosts Fresno State (14-16, 6-8) on Monday, Mar. 1 and New Mexico State (19-9, 11-3) on Saturday, Mar. 6 with both games beginning at 7 p.m. USU’s game against the Bulldogs will not be televised, but its game against NMSU will be shown live on CW30. -USU-
