North Logan installs prescription drug drop box

NORTH LOGAN (AP) — Residents in North Logan now have a place to safely dispose of their unused or expired prescription drugs. A drop box has been installed inside the city’s office building partly in response to environmental concerns about flushing unused medications down the toilet. Police Sgt. John Italasano says another goal is to prevent the drugs from ending up in the hands of someone who might misuse them. Police plan to collect the deposits each night and store them in an evidence vault. After a large amount is stored up, police will transport the material to Utah State University, where it will be incinerated. They hope the disposal program will help reduce crime related to prescription drug abuse, burglary and drug misuse by children.
