Let’s take a look around the college basketball landscape on where the Aggies are projected to go in the NCAA tournament. There are a lot of blogs out there claiming that their bracket is the best so let’s put them to the test. We all know about Joe Lunardi (claims to have over a 90 percent ratio on predicting the tournament) and his ESPN Bracketology but let’s look elsewhere to have an idea on some of the opponents Utah State might match up with.
8 Florida State vs. 9 Utah St in Buffalo, NY (Florida St. 20-8, 8-6)
8 Clemson vs. 9 Utah St in Buffalo, NY (Clemson 20-8, 8-6)
7 Texas vs. 10 Utah St in Milwaukee, WI (Texas 23-7, 9-6)
6 Xavier vs. 11 Utah State in Providence, RI (Xavier 21-7, 12-2)
5 Tennessee vs. 12 Utah St in Spokane, WA (Tennessee 21-7, 9-5)
5 Baylor vs. 12 Utah State in Spokane, WA (Baylor 22-6, 9-5)
Complete compilation of all brackets and seeds in one location, placing USU at an 11 seed.
The bottom line is Utah State is looked upon as the WAC tournament winner-anything beyond that we have no idea. I would like to think that if Utah State reaches the championship game of the WAC that they could steal an at-large. We also know the history of Utah State basketball so let’s just take it out of the committee’s hands and win. I project Butler will be a 5th seed and the Aggies a 12 seed and two of the longest winning streaks in the nation which would create a very intriguing matchup. The first round locations are Oklahoma City, Spokane, San Jose, Providence, Jacksonville, New Orleans, Buffalo, and Milwaukee. My personal favorite is bracketology.blogspot.com because he takes Joe Lunardi to task on every move he makes and I tend to agree with his viewpoints. That blog is also the new contributor to foxsports.com’s tournament projection. Get your popcorn ready for the NCAA Basketball Selection Show on CBS on March 14th at 4pm.
