Logan City reduces on-street parking fee

Beginning next year landlords and others who have paid $200 a year to park their cars on city streets this winter will have to pay only $50 a year. Logan Municipal Council members voted unanimously Tuesday night to reduce the cost after a public hearing where most landlords wanted no fee at all. The parking permits were required after the council approved a park strip restoration plan that forced vehicles off city property and onto the streets. Community Development Director Jay Nielsen said the reduction was made because the permits are only necessary for three months of the year while the city’s off-street parking ordinance is in effect. During that time, residents must have their cars off the streets from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. One landlord told the council there is something wrong when a property owner has to pay to violate a law.
