Home and Garden time

This weekend’s Cache Valley Radio Home and Garden Show brings together more than a hundred businesses and other organizations. Events are Friday (10 a.m.-8 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) at USU’s George Nelson Field house. Sarah Pett is event manager. “We have put a lot of effort into making it a family fun place to be,” she said. “We have food choices in the food court. We’ve added a backyard carnival this year for the kids, sponsored by the United Way of Cache Valley with 18 nonprofit organizations running carnival activities where you can win prizes. All the money from the carnival goes back into the community, redistributed to these nonprofits.” Pett something else new is a craft and home décor area with many new vendors who specialize in hand crafted items. “We have vendors who are a part of this every year and they feel it’s a great benefit to them,” said Pett. “This year I’ve been very surprised with the number of new vendors. We have more vendors than ever and we have a lot of new categories we have never had before. The homebuilders have really stepped up this year, there are going to be some amazing displays from our homebuilders.” She said vendors will make possible great prizes and giveaways, with a lot of freebies and discounts and coupons. The Cache Valley Radio Group will give away two grand prizes. “One is a playhouse for the back yard donated by Triple Peaks Construction (worth $4,500) while Camp Chef has donated a large gas grill worth $350. You can enter to win both of those prizes at the show.” Pett said in past years parking has been a challenge. Not this year. “We’ve had that problem before, but we’ve conquered that one. All the parking in student lots and in both terraces is free. There is plenty of parking all around the campus.” Pett said there will be free goodie bags at the door and Tweety Bird, Sylvester and Bugs Bunny will hand out candy to the children. “We’ve put a lot of thought into making it fun for everyone, there are a lot of vendors that will interest everyone.” Admission to the event is $2; 18 and under are free. Pett says printable coupons are available elsewhere on
