Peterson promoted to Deputy Fire Chief

Assistant Logan Fire Chief Jeff Peterson has been promoted to the newly-created fire department rank of Deputy Fire Chief effective Saturday, April 3. Logan Mayor Randy Watts says the deputy chief position is a common rank in many fire departments and exists between the assistant fire chief level and that of the fire chief. Watts says it exists to provide clarity as to who is second in command in the fire chief’s absence. Watts says the position will assist him in assuring a smooth transition between Fire Chief Mark Meaker’s retiement and the hiring of a new chief. Meaker has announced that he is retiring on May 1.
